Check the official source. Laws, rates and deadlines change. Each page names its official source and the date it was checked; before you act, check the official source or ask a qualified, authorised professional.
Tools and calculators. Results are indicative, based on the values you enter and simplified assumptions. They do not replace a professional's calculation and do not guarantee the outcome for your situation.

Independent guide. Power Cut Kit explains UK official guidance on power cuts and household emergency kits in plain English. It is not a government website and is not linked to the Cabinet Office, the Be Ready campaign, Ofgem, any electricity network operator, energy supplier or retailer. Official names appear only to say where information comes from.
In an emergency. If someone is in danger, call 999. To report a power cut, call 105 (free) or contact your network operator. If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
Payments and food times are estimates. Payment amounts follow Ofgem's guaranteed standards as published and are reviewed every year; your network operator decides each case. Fridge and freezer times are general estimates; your appliance, the room temperature and the food matter.
Your data. Your kit list, times and answers stay in your browser and are never sent anywhere.
